The mission of AADAC Youth Services in Edmonton is
to assist Alberta youth in achieving and maintaining a healthy life free
from the abuse of alcohol, other drugs, and gambling. In working to
fulfill its mission, Youth Services offers treatment and prevention
programs directed at helping youth and their families. The theme of AADAC
Youth Services is Finding My Way. This theme recognizes that
young people, families and communities have unique circumstances that need
to be addressed by prevention programs, or by treatment services during
the journey to recovery.
The range of programs is designed to increase the
capacity of individuals, families, and communities to prevent drug abuse,
reduce drug- and alcohol-related harm, and encourage the resolution of
personal problems.
The following are available from AADAC Youth
Services in Edmonton:
Community Outreach
This is the prevention component of AADAC Youth
Services. Generally, prevention is done by helping young people develop an
interest in pursuing challenging, healthy activities and in improving or
managing their life experiences.
Community Outreach addictions counsellors offer
in-service, take a lead role in peer support training, and are available
to consult with allied professionals and others. General inquiries on
alcohol, other drugs, gambling, and AADAC services are welcome.
Curriculum-based resources and other relevant print
materials are available at the Youth Services site.
Community Treatment
Provides a range of outpatient treatment services
focused exclusively on meeting the needs of youth and families. As the
initial contact for many seeking treatment, a client’s needs are first
matched to the most suitable service through a screening assessment.
Community Treatment provides referral to Intensive Treatment, other
community resources, and aftercare.

learn strategies to halt the destructive cycle of addictions. Admission to
the intensive program for 12 - 17 year olds is based on an assessment of
