  The Pressure's on

Introduction

This activity page is designed to help your students explore their responses to pressure situations.

Hints

  • Tie this in with an activity around assertiveness (such as the How Assertive Are You? Questionnaire on the 9 - 13 Relationships section of the website).
  • Role play the situation in front of the class, emphasizing the assertive response. You may wish to model (or have the student model) a passive or aggressive response for contrast.
  • Debrief the role play by exploring the thoughts and feelings of all the characters involved:

Examples:

How did Ryan's friends feel when he agreed to go with them?

How does Ryan feel about doing something he knows he shouldn't do?

How could Ryan have let his friends know how he really feels?

How would his friends respond?

How could Ryan deal with their response if it's negative?
